Renewing Democracy grants open for democracy reporting

The Solutions Journalism Network Renewing Democracy grants fund high quality, high impact solutions reporting with relevance in the run-up to the 2020 elections. Renewing Democracy projects can examine:

  • Civic agency and mobilization — Bottom-up community efforts to change the status quo or overcome social, political or economic conflicts.
  • How the machinery of democracy works — Community initiatives to address voting, electoral and political reforms.
  • Policy responses by public institutions — Strategies implemented by federal, state and local agencies to make government more transparent, efficient, equitable and accessible to the people it serves.

The program will award grants on a rolling funding cycle, which means newsrooms can apply when the timing is right for them. And we are increasing the maximum grant amount from $2,500 to $4,000.

Interested newsrooms should apply for a grant or share this information with their network.

Learn more about the criteria and how to apply for a grant. Please send questions to Keith Hammonds, keith@solutionsjournalism.org, or Delaney Butler, delaney@solutionsjournalism.org.
