IJF leadership welcomes interested students to information session
The Indigenous Journalists Association (IJA) is hosting a virtual informational session to students interested in the 2024 Indigenous Journalism Fellowship (IJF) on Feb. 20 at 5:30 p.m. Eastern Time. Register here.
IJA vice-president and education chair, Jourdan Bennett-Begaye, former IJA board secretary, Pauly Denetclaw, and education manager Sheena Roetman will share information, experiences and history about IJF. This is an open opportunity for potential applicants to learn about the fellowship, application process and to ask any questions about the program.
Applications are now open for the Indigenous Journalism Fellowship. The application deadline is Feb. 27. Selected fellows will build their reporting and interpersonal skills in a digital newsroom experience before, during and after the 2024 Indigenous Media Conference set for July 25-27 in Oklahoma City, Okla.
The 2024 class will participate in a six-week virtual curriculum with selected mentors representing broadcast, radio, print and digital media. This innovative experience is designed to leverage the inclusivity and accessibility of online learning while allowing fellows to continue with classwork, jobs, internships and other responsibilities. Additionally, fellows will participate in the Indigenous Media Conference, network with other Indigenous journalists and strengthen their reporting skills.
IJA is committed to increasing the representation of Indigenous journalists in the media. One of the ways IJA supports and empowers members is through the annual Indigenous Journalism Fellowship (IJF), which is open to current Indigenous, Native American, Alaska Native, Native Hawaiian, First Nation, Inuit and Métis college students, undergraduate and graduate, pursuing media degrees.
IJF is an opportunity for students to deepen and broaden their reporting and multimedia skills, while learning from tribal journalists and news industry professionals from across the country.
