2025 Indigenous Media Conference: “Sovereignty Equals Free Press” agenda announced

IJA announced the 2025 Indigenous Media Conference theme and full program

The Indigenous Journalists Association (IJA), announced, “Sovereignty Equals Free Press” as the theme for the 2025 Indigenous Media Conference (IMC) Aug. 13-15 at the Isleta Resort & Casino in Albuquerque, NM.

The full agenda is now available and features nearly 50 breakout sessions and special events over three days. From a session on covering tribal and state legislatures to how cuts to CPB will impact tribal broadcasters, conference programming includes journalism education and Indigenous knowledge-sharing.

Pricing is available on the conference registration site. IJA members receive discounted rates and the standard registration deadline is Aug. 8. On-site rates begin Aug. 9. Special event and meal tickets are not included with full registration but are available for separate purchase.

All tiers include access to workshops, sessions, screenings and keynote presentations, as well as the Opening Night Reception on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center. Guest tickets for the Opening Night Reception on Wednesday, Aug. 13, are $50 for anyone not registered for the IMC, including members and non-members.

Tickets for the IJA Membership Luncheon on Thursday, Aug. 14 are $85 and available for members and non-members. Attendees will review IJA’s accomplishments over the past year and the organization will present the 2025 IJA-Medill Milestone Achievement Award.

Tickets to the Indigenous Media Awards Banquet on Friday, Aug. 15, from 6-9 p.m., are available for purchase for $100 each.

A discounted ticket bundle for the IJA Membership Luncheon and the Indigenous Media Awards Banquet is available for $150.
