Check It Out — the IJA Freelancer Database Is Now Live!

The Indigenous Journalists Association is excited to announce the launch of our Freelancer Database! This new resource was created to support and spotlight IJA members while connecting them with vetted organizations looking to hire journalists, photographers, editors and other media professionals.

For IJA Members

If you’re a current IJA member, you can opt into the database by completing a short form. Once submitted, your profile will be visible to organizations approved through IJA’s vetting process. Participation is entirely optional, and your information will only be shared with organizations we’ve verified as legitimate media outlets.

For Organizations

Organizations seeking to hire Indigenous and allied media professionals can request access to the database by filling out a simple form. IJA’s vetting process ensures that access is granted only to legitimate, professional outlets, helping safeguard our members’ information.

While many freelancers in the database are Indigenous, not all are. Membership in IJA is open to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous journalists, and this benefit reflects that inclusivity. We will make member identity clear where relevant, so hiring managers know exactly who they’re connecting with.

Why It Matters

The IJA Freelancer Database is a powerful tool to:

  • Help Indigenous and allied journalists promote their skills.
  • Provide organizations with a trusted place to find qualified media professionals.
  • Strengthen connections across Indian Country and beyond through quality journalism.

We’re proud to launch this resource to help amplify our members’ work and connect them with professional opportunities. For more information, contact IJA’s Director of Membership, Sheena Roetman-Wynn, at sroetman@naja.com.
