Description

The Atlantic is seeking a senior associate editor to join the newsroom’s fact-checking team. This senior associate editor will work with The Atlantic’s journalists and editors to ensure the accuracy and fairness of our work. This position will involve fact-checking across our editorial platforms (magazine, web, podcasts, etc.) on a wide range of topics, including politics, culture, science, and technology.

Qualifications of the Ideal Candidate:

  • Commitment to accuracy
  • Rigorous attention to detail
  • Persistence and resourcefulness in tracking down information/sources
  • Ability to swiftly identify logical errors or significant omissions in an article
  • Diplomacy and tact in dealing with a variety of personalities and communicating complex issues
  • Keen editorial judgment
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, juggling various projects and deadlines
  • Strong communication and interviewing skills
  • Ability to work independently
  • A genuine love of research
  • A flexible schedule; night, early-morning, and weekend work often required
  • Able to uphold the highest editorial standards under tight deadlines
  • Minimum of five years post-college fact-checking experience

 This role is based in Washington, D.C.

Annual salary minimum: $85,000

Annual salary maximum: $95,000

This is a Guild position.
