IJA Membership Survey open through Jan. 26, 2024

Indigenous Journalists Association members may complete survey for chance to win weekly $50 Eighth Gen gift card

The Indigenous Journalists Association’s 2023-2024 Membership Survey is now open through Jan. 26, 2024. The annual survey aims to help the organization better understand how to serve members. Results from the 2022 Membership Survey informed the 2023-2026 IJA Strategic Plan and the board of directors and staff will utilize feedback and results from this survey to shape activities under the four established strategic goals:

  • Expand membership structure to support continued growth
  • Elevate standards and accountability in Indigenous journalism
  • Establish IJA as leading voice in journalism
  • Review and revise governing documents

IJA’s mission is centered on the idea that accurate and contextual reporting about Indigenous people and communities is necessary to overcome biases and stereotypes portrayed in popular and mainstream media. Expanding access to accurate news and information is essential to an informed citizenry and healthy democracy, across tribal, local, state and national levels.

For more than 40 years, Indigenous journalists across the United States and Canada have worked to support and sustain IJA. Originally formed as the Native American Press Association in 1983, the organization has grown from just a handful of reporters to a membership of nearly 900, which includes Indigenous journalists, associates, educators and partners.

All respondents that complete the survey will be entered in a drawing to win a weekly $50 Eighth Generation digital gift card each Friday starting Dec. 8 through Jan. 26, 2024 with the exception of Friday, Dec. 29 due to the holiday office closure. Two winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 5, 2024.

All current members will receive the survey directly to the email account associated with their membership. If you have any issues, please contact: scosper@naja.com.
