IJA Announces New Fund Development Director

Shirley LaCourse Jaramillo hired as IJA’s first fund development director

Shirley LaCourse Jaramillo (Oglala Lakota / Oneida / Yakama / Umatilla) joins the Indigenous Journalists Association as the organization’s first fund development director. LaCourse Jaramillo has nearly 35 years of experience, with 25 of those years working to strengthen nonprofits in the areas of program administration, organizational management and grants development and management.

“Shirley is the perfect addition to the IJA team. Her skills, service to Indian Country and history supporting the organization couldn’t have come at a better time as we’re prioritizing operational sustainability to support programs that serve Indigenous communities and make the media landscape more equitable,” said Rebecca Landsberry-Baker, IJA executive director.

LaCourse Jaramillo joins IJA with solid skills and experience fundraising across corporate, government and foundation grantmaking systems. She is a citizen of the Oglala Lakota Nation, and Oneida (Wisconsin), Yakama and Umatilla descendant. She is married, has two children and is based in New Mexico.

“It is an honor to join IJA’s powerhouse team working to enrich Indigenous journalism and honor my father Richard’s legacy as a founding member of the (formerly) Native American Press Association/Native American Journalists Association. I look forward to helping create and broaden partnerships and bringing new resources to IJA in fulfillment of its mission,” said LaCourse Jaramillo.
