Colorado’s only podcast incubator for women of color opens 2020 applications

DENVER ー AMPED, an audio education non-profit, in partnership with Arts in Society, House of Pod, and Lantigua Williams & Co., opens applications for its second year of From the Margins to the Center ーColorado’s very own podcast incubator for women of color. The program aims to amplify marginalized voices from across a broad spectrum of age, ethnicity, and backgrounds.

Eight women of color will have the opportunity to produce their podcasts through this expanded six-week program at House of Pod in Denver, Colorado. The incubator will be free for all participants, and childcare will be included during each class. Depending on the status of local stay-at-home orders, the incubator may operate entirely or partially online.

“This is a moment where we can spark and support creativity,” said Rebecca Mendoza Nunziato, a graduate of the 2019 program and the new program director of AMPED. ”Despite the restrictions from this pandemic, we are excited to highlight new voices and see new shows coming out of this program and into the industry.”

Participants will attend weekly workshops, receive a one-year membership to the House of Pod recording studio, and have access to drop-in sessions with local industry leaders. The program will include keynote sessions with Juleyka Lantigua-Williams of Lantigua-Williams & Co. and Jennifer White of WBEZ in Chicago. Participants will also be paired with prominent women of color podcast producers as their mentors. Three promising producers, as selected by the AMPED Board, will be eligible for sponsorship to support the first season of their podcast.

Applications are available here and will close at midnight MST on Friday, May 8th, 2020. Additional photos, videos and other marketing resources from our inaugural incubator from 2019 are available here.

About AMPed

Started in 2018, AMPed continues to increase equity in media and support under-resourced and historically underrepresented communities to get behind the microphone to tell their own stories. Through classes, events, and the Podcast Incubation program, Amped equips diverse creators, storytellers, and community members with new skills around communication, expression, listening, and creativity that will allow them to produce audio media stories and podcasts.
