IJA announces 2024 Indigenous Media Awards winners

The Indigenous Journalists Association will recognize outstanding Indigenous journalism during Indigenous Media Conference

NORMAN, Okla., — The Indigenous Journalists Association (IJA) will present more than 200 awards recognizing outstanding coverage of Indigenous communities during the Indigenous Media Awards Banquet on Saturday, July 27 as part of the 2024 Indigenous Media Conference at the Omni Hotel in Oklahoma City.

The annual competition recognizes excellence in reporting by Indigenous and non-Indigenous journalists from across the globe. This year, IJA received more than 800 entries across the following categories:

  • Student Division
  • Associate Division I – (Circulation below 5,000)
  • Associate Division II – (Circulation 5,000 – 10,000)
  • Associate Division III – (Circulation above 10,000)
  • Professional Division I – (Circulation below 5,000)
  • Professional Division II – (Circulation 5,000 – 10,000)
  • Professional Division III – (Circulation above 10,000)

Winners may pick up their awards in-person at the banquet on Saturday, July 27. Those who are unable to attend in-person may request to have their awards shipped directly at cost. To request the direct shipping option, winners must complete the 2024 Indigenous Media Awards Direct Shipping Request Form no later than Friday, Sept. 6. Additional copies of award plaques may also be purchased and shipped at cost. 

Winners should submit any requested award corrections via email to jmedina@naja.com with the winner’s division, category, outlet, entrant name and corrected information no later than Monday, July 15

Entries that did not follow the contest rules were either accommodated to comply or disqualified at the contest admin or judges’ discretion. IJA thanks all of the judges, their outlets and organizations for the investment of time and expertise in making this year’s contest possible:
