Ojibwe expressionist artist George Morrison is being celebrated at two separate art galleries in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Morrison grew up on the Grand Portage reservation in northern Minnesota.

Todd Bockley of Bockley Gallery, Angela Two Stars (Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate) of All My Relations and Two Rivers Gallery have all collaborated on a joint exhibition of George Morrison’s work for his 100th birthday.

This will be Two Star’s first gallery exhibition. She says Morrison was never referenced in her art classes. This exhibition, Changing Horizons is a bridge to bring together current artists in the community with the previous works of Morrison’s.

“Talk about his experience as a Native artist and how that is something that Native artists are still dealing with today,” said Two Stars. “That experience of what society expects them to create as Native artists rather than just being allowed to create art that is universal.”
