The IJA Indigiqueer Committee welcomes you to Portland – please join us for a happy hour hang on Thursday, July 23 at the Proof Reader Bar, located on the first floor of the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront hotel from 5-6 p.m. PT. All are welcome!
Portland is known for being a queer-friendly city! Here are some cool queer-friendly and queer-owned spots to check out:
For those interested in nightlife, there is a concentration of LGBTQ+ clubs just one mile north of the Marriott in the Old Town / Chinatown neighborhood. From Darcelle XV, home to one of the west coast’s longest-running drag shows to dancing at CC Slaughters or Badlands a few blocks away. Across the river, check out weekly karaoke and trivia at Back2Earth and other events at Peacock PDX. And for those sports lovers, don’t forget to stop by The Sports Bra.
As journalists, we all love a good book, so check out Always Here Bookstore, which is queer and trans-worker owned.
Feeling hungry? Grab a bite at Mis Tacones or Tin Shed Garden Cafe. Feeling fancy? Try Kann.
If you’re in the mood for a coffee or a matcha in a city that loves caffeine, check out Either/Or or Queer Plants Cafe.
In need of a relaxing massage or dip in a hot tub check out The Everett House or Common Ground Wellness Cooperative, which are each queer-friendly, around the clock and do offer specific affinity hours as well. (Do note, both spas are clothing optional.)
Itching for new ink in a city with a known love for tattoos? Check out Birdhouse Tattoo with two Portland locations. Or, just 15 minutes away, across the Columbia River in Vancouver, check out Dreamboat Tattoo Company.

***Note: this is by no means an exhaustive list as we are lucky in Portland to be surrounded by queer-owned and queer friendly businesses.
