IJA brings annual conference back to Minnesota for a 4th time
The Indigenous Journalists Association (IJA) announces Minneapolis, Minnesota as the host city for the 2027 Indigenous Media Conference (IMC), to be held July 29-31, 2027 at the Marriott Minneapolis City Center, located on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe and Dakota Oyate.
IJA will host nearly 500 attendees over three days filled with informative programming, cultural performances, keynote speeches, and special events including, but not limited to, the Opening Ceremony Breakfast, Opening Night Reception, Membership Meeting and Business Luncheon and the Indigenous Media Awards Banquet.
The IJA board of directors is proud to return to Minnesota after having hosted three historical conferences in the area – Minneapolis in 1997, St. Paul in 2010 and Prior Lake in 2019. The organization recognizes the importance of hosting the largest gathering of Indigenous journalists in the world, in Minneapolis in 2027.
“We are thrilled to hold our next Indigenous media conference in a place that is incredibly meaningful to the association, its members, and to the broader Indigenous community. The association has a rich history with Minneapolis and strong ties with communities in the surrounding area,” said IJA President Sunnie Clahchischiligi. “Minneapolis is an important place for Indigenous people and truth speaking. We look forward to reconnecting with the people and the place where many dedicated journalists, including those who are Indigenous, have been upholding journalistic integrity during challenging times.”
Conference registration will open in early 2027 with discounted early-bird rates for current members.
