The Indigenous Journalists Association (IJA) and the Indigenous Office at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC), are partnering on a Share your Story Workshop on Friday, November 15, 2024 from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at CBC Manitoba, 541 Portage Ave. in Winnipeg, Canada.
We know the important role Indigenous People have in shaping storytelling across the province of Manitoba, and understand that engaging with media isn’t always comfortable. With this workshop, we hope to mitigate any concerns and ensure the expertise of Indigenous people – as well as Indigenous issues – get the attention they deserve.
Over the course of a day, through group discussions, hands-on practice and helpful feedback, a team of Indigenous journalists and media relations experts will work with you to:
- Hone your message
- Strengthen your media-friendly storytelling skills
- Deepen your understanding of the story components journalists look for
- Explore ways to communicate most effectively and powerfully with journalists and media outlets
- Grow your relationships, with Indigenous journalists from a variety of media outlets (including CBC, APTN and Associated Press), and with other Indigenous community leaders
The workshop will be facilitated by Graham Lee Brewer (Cherokee), National Reporter, Race and Ethnicity, Associated Press, with training by IJA and CBC leadership:

- Kris Clemens (Red River Métis, Manitoba Métis Federation), Senior Specialist- Indigenous Strategy, CBC/Radio-Canada
This training is FREE. Light breakfast and lunch will be provided. Space is limited so please register early.
