Gonzales will serve as the Indigenous Media Conference event emcee; Brian Bull will join as co-emcee for the 2026 Indigenous Media Awards
Norman, Okla. — The Indigenous Journalists Association (IJA) announced Antonia Gonzales (Navajo Nation) as the event emcee for the 2026 Indigenous Media Conference (IMC) July 22-24 in Portland, Ore. IMC26 will be hosted on the traditional lands of the Multnomah, Wasco, Kathlamet, Clackamas, Chinook, Tualatin, Kalapuya, Molalla, and present-day Grande Ronde, Siletz and Cowlitz at the Portland Marriott Downtown Waterfront.
Gonzales has more than 20 years experience working in Native radio. She is also a television correspondent with work featured on First Nations Experience, New Mexico PBS, and Native Report. She is a longtime member of the Indigenous Journalists Association, serving as a past board member and student mentor and lives in Albuquerque with her husband and two sons.

Brian Bull (Nez Perce Tribe), will join Gonzales as co-emcee for the Indigenous Media Awards. Bull’s 30-year career includes stints at National Public Radio, South Dakota Public Radio, Wisconsin Public Radio, Underscore Native News, Buffalo’s Fire and KLCC.
He substitute hosts National Native News and his work has appeared in ICT, The Oregonian, and People Magazine. He’s a veteran mentor with NextGen Journalism and was a University of Oregon journalism professor. An alum of Macalester College, Bull recently received its Catharine Lealtad Service to Society Award. He has a Master’s Degree in Journalism from New York University. Bull has three kids, a wife, and five cats who keep him in his place.
IJA members can register with discounted rates for access to workshops, sessions, screenings and keynote presentations. IMC26 registration also includes one ticket to the Opening Night Reception sponsored by the Confederated Tribes of the Umatilla Indian Reservation (CTUIR).

IMC attendees can reserve rooms at a group rate starting at $216 USD per night, available July 20-26, 2026. Guestroom reservations must be made by June 29, 2026 to receive the discounted group room rates. After this date, guestrooms are at the best available rate.
