The Indigenous Journalists Association’s Freelancer Database is a searchable directory that supports and spotlights our talented members while helping vetted organizations hire Indigenous journalists, photographers, editors and media professionals.
This is a free benefit for all IJA members. Nonmembers will be invoiced for a $50 annual access fee, or you can join for just a few more dollars!
For Freelancers
Current members can opt in by completing a short form. Once submitted, your profile appears in the database, which is searchable by IJA-vetted and approved organizations.
Important Notes
- Participation is optional.
- You do not need to be Indigenous, but you do need to be a current IJA member. Join here!
- Your contact and portfolio details are shared only with organizations we have vetted and approved.
- IJA does not facilitate or oversee contracts, agreements or payments; we serve solely as a connector between members and potential clients.
By opting in, you acknowledge that:
- IJA is not liable for disputes, missed payments or any issues arising from freelance work initiated through this database.
- You are solely responsible for negotiating rates, terms and project scope with interested parties.
For Editors and Organizations
Accessing the IJA Freelancer Database is simple. Just fill out a short request form, and once approved, you’ll receive access to search and connect with IJA members available for freelance work.
Our Vetting Process
To protect our members, IJA screens all organizations requesting access. The review process is straightforward — we verify that you represent a legitimate news or media outlet and confirm that your request is professional in nature. This helps ensure members’ information is shared only with credible organizations.
Important Context
- While many of our members are Indigenous, not all are. The Freelancer Database is a benefit open to all IJA members. We do our best to make clear when a freelancer identifies as Indigenous to ensure transparency.
- IJA’s role is to connect freelancers with organizations. We do not facilitate or monitor contracts, rates or payments. Those details are strictly between you and the freelancer.
We’re excited to amplify our members’ work and help you connect with the right talent!
